Hi, I’m Vanessa Monaghan, the creator of Read the Recipe. The kitchen is my favourite room in any home, but don’t let that fool you into thinking I’m an expert.
I’m not a chef, have no qualifications in food and truth to be told I’m not even a very good cook.
What I am is home cook who loves to read and write about food.
For me, cooking is something that relaxes me after a long day in the office. I also love planning special meals on the weekend and wandering through farmer’s markets at home or when I travel.
To be honest, I have more cooking failures than successes, which might sound odd coming from the owner of a food blog, but that’s what I love writing about the most – the recipes that work and the ones that take me out of my comfort zone and the ones I’m still trying to master.
You’ll find all that and more here on Read The Recipe.
I’d love it if you’d join my mailing list so I can share what’s new in my kitchen each week. To get the RTR newsletter delivered free to your inbox, just click here.
THIS IS ME
I’m an Aussie, a mum of teens and a children’s author from Canberra, Australia.
I love spending time with my family, travelling, listening to podcasts and of course, cooking.
I’m happiest when I’m writing stories, in the middle a good book, making a mess in the kitchen or hanging out with my kids.
- I am terrible at remembering names.
- I’m a recovering cyberchondriac
- I buy food magazines for the articles.
- I hate green peas so much don’t think I could eat one for a million dollars (all offers accepted though).
- I’ve never watched Game Of Thrones or The Walking Dead and have no plans to as I am a wimp about blood, gore and violence.
ON THE ROAD
As a kid my family had one holiday a year. It was the annual Christmas road trip to my grandparents house that took 12 hours in extreme heat with not much to look at along the way.
I don’t know if this experience inspired me to travel, but I’ve been fortunate to see a lot of world as an adult. I’ve travelled extensively through the U.S, Canada, the U.K, Ireland and Europe and always want to see more. I have lots of favourite places, including Disneyland.
